things I have learned in my life so far

Stefan Sagmeister is the epitome of what I want to be and achieve.
for christmas, all I asked for was his book things I have learned in my life so far

the cover of the book is die cut, and the content is separated into different books. as you change the order of the books, the cover of the entire package is changed.

everybody thinks he is right.
starting a charity is surprisingly easy.
worrying solves nothing.
money does not make me happy.
trying to look good limits my life.
everything I do always comes back to me.
helping other people helps me.
over time I get used to everything and start taking it for granted.
actually doing the things set out to do increases my satisfaction.
traveling alone is useful for a new perspective on life.
everybody who is honest is interesting.
keeping a diary supports personal development.
drugs feel great in the beginning and become a drag later on.
thinking life will be better in the future is stupid. I have to live now.
complaining is silly. either act or forget.
low expectations are a good strategy.
material luxuries are best enjoyed in small doses.
assuming is stifling.
being not truthful always works against me.
having guts always works out for me.

so it begins...

I've been lurking around here for a while.
posting every once in a while on the kendall aiga blog, and Jason's type3 blog.
but now I feel like I need my own place to post things that inspire me, shit I think is cool, and occasionally some shit that I do.

I'll start it off with the book cover I designed for my advertising group project.

(please take notice of how majestic Gary and Caslon look together.)

I was in a group with 2 other graphic designers (my buddies Matt and Brian) and 4 interior design students. we were to create a company and the graphic design students established the branding and created advertising for it, while the interior students designed the interior of the office.
we created a publishing company called Dimension Publishing. Matt, Brian and I each created a book and advertising for it. my advertising sucked, but I'm happy with the book cover. and I also created the logo (which appears on the spine). I feel like it represented the company pretty well. the rest of the project was a bunch of bullshit, and I hope I never have to work with an interior designer ever again.
